Who's behind Hiree
Hiree is built by Hiree Editorial, who writes and edits our guides with one rule: every figure must be traceable to SARS, the Department of Employment and Labour, or the law behind it. We started it because the money information we needed — real South African rules, in plain language, without paywalls — was scattered across jargon-heavy documents and sites aimed at accountants.
We are not tax practitioners, financial advisors, SARS, or the Department of Employment and Labour. We're an independent project, and we say that plainly because it matters for how you should read us: our tools and guides are educational, not personal advice.
How we work
- We verify against official sources. Every rate, ceiling and formula is checked against SARS, the Department of Employment and Labour, Government Gazettes and the laws behind them — and we cite them so you can check us.
- We re-check when rules change. South African rates move with the Budget Speech, gazetted notices and new Acts. When they change, we review and update the affected tools and guides.
- We state assumptions and limitations. If a calculator ignores something (like medical aid credits, or a tax directive), we say so on the page — never in the fine print.
- We admit what we're not. No invented qualifications, no "certified" claims, no fake experts. If you need personal advice, we'll tell you to talk to a registered professional.
What this means for you
You can trust that our numbers are checked and our assumptions are visible — and you should treat everything here as a starting point, not a final answer. Our calculators are estimates; only SARS or the Department of Employment and Labour can give you an official figure.
