Editorial Policy
Last updated: 14 August 2026
Hiree's editorial policy comes down to one sentence: we publish what we can verify, and we correct what we get wrong. Here's how that works in practice.
1. Accuracy and sourcing
- Figures like tax brackets, UIF caps and VAT rates are checked against official sources (SARS, the Department of Employment and Labour, the South African Revenue Service legislation).
- Every calculator page states the assumptions behind its estimate and the limitations of the result — including the pure-arithmetic percentage calculator, which says exactly that.
- We link official sources wherever possible so you can verify the numbers yourself.
2. Plain language
We write for people, not for the tax act. Where technical terms are unavoidable, we define them in plain English. If a guide is longer than it needs to be, that's a bug — tell us.
3. Independence
We are not affiliated with SARS, any bank, lender, insurer or tax firm. No one can pay to influence a calculator's formula, a guide's conclusion or a ranking. See ouradvertising disclosure.
4. Corrections
- Material errors (a wrong rate, a wrong threshold, a wrong formula) are fixed immediately, and the page's "last updated" date is bumped.
- Minor typos are fixed on the next review.
- When a rule changes (e.g. new tax year), affected pages are updated or clearly labelled with the applicable period.
Spot an error? Pleaselet us know— ideally with the official source so we can verify and fix it fast.
5. Reviews
Tax-season pages are reviewed at the start of each tax year (1 March) and whenever significant rate changes are announced. Core calculators are reviewed at least annually.
